Helle Hammonds, celebrity trainer and founder of GymClass London, knows a thing or two about fitness. Her classes consist of HIIT, resistance training and bodyweight exercises, and her own figure is the proof of the workout’s efficacy. SixtyNinety caught up the fitness queen to discover her secrets…
First things first, what’s your favourite way to work out, and why?
My favourite place to work out is at my studio GymClass. At GymClass the workouts are the perfect combination of athletic HIIT training, which burns fat, and resistance work with free weights and body weight moves, which tones and sculpts your body. I write the workout program for each day to make sure everyone who comes gets the best workout possible. This program is then delivered by our team of expert trainers so I can just show up, get told what to do and I don’t have to worry about going anywhere else or trying to fit in any other training as I get everything I need in these workouts. I do about 4 classes a week at GymClass and I am in the best shape of my life!
What does your day on a plate look like?
I always work out in the morning so I train fasted. Post workout I always have a protein shake from our shake bar, my favourite is our Cheeky Choc! For lunch I usually have a salad sometimes with some bread on the side. I like to add in another small meal at around 4pm as it stops me snacking on sugar at this time – I do have a sweet tooth so sometimes if I don’t have that small mid-afternoon meal, I will have a sweet treat like some chocolate! In the evening I like to sit down for a meal, which always includes some good quality protein, carbohydrates, and fat so I have proper fuel in my body so I can smash my workout the next morning! My favourite dinner would be homemade spaghetti bolognaise made with lean mince, wholemeal pasta and a good side salad.
Which women inspire you, and why?
American personal trainer and businesswoman Jillian Michaels inspires me as she is tough but also cool and caring. It may sound cliché but my GymClass clients inspire me every day with their dedication and transformations!
Do you have any workout beauty hacks?
I love Boots No7 Extreme Length Waterproof Mascara. I swear by this mascara, as it does not run so you can workout in it and your eyelashes still look and feel great afterwards.
How do you stay motivated and driven to work hard, in your fitness and in your business?
With fitness, I stay motivated by reminding myself how great I feel after I workout. I always feel so much more energised, alert and able to tackle anything the day throws at me!
I find it easy to stay motivated in business as I feel very passionate about fitness and the impact it can have on people. I believe that fitness can improve people’s lives and I want to reach and engage with as many people as possible with high quality training and a positive, welcoming training environment to help people achieve their goals.
We know that mental and emotional wellbeing is as important as physical fitness. How do you like to relax and de-stress after a busy day?
I love walking my two dogs Missy and Mini as it gets me outside in the fresh air, which helps to clear my head. I also like to go home in the evening after work and spend quality time with my daughter, Suzie. I try to switch off my laptop and phone during this time so I can totally get away from work but this doesn’t always happen! An early night and a good night sleep is also so important for me with my busy schedule and early morning workouts.
