Hey girls. Okay, so for those of you who don’t know, I competed in my first ever bikini competition on 25th October 2015. I did not place at this competition, and if I’m honest, I didn't deserve to place. In this article I am going to tell you all about the experience, answer some of my most asked questions about the competition and just tell you all my thoughts on the day and how it went.
The first question I get asked ALOT… ‘were you disappointed that you didn't place?’
I was no way disappointed. The girls who did place were honestly fantastic. They had worked their butts of for months and put 100% in to that competition… which I did not. I can honestly say I did not bring my best package to the competition and I in no way took the competition seriously enough. I wasn't eating how I should have been leading up to the competition and I didn't give myself enough time to build a substantial amount of muscle. I didn't feel I looked half as good as the other girls who competed, I wasn't particularly lean and my muscle mass wasn't as defined as I would have wanted it to be. But I could only blame myself and can just use the competition as a learning curve ready to use it as a lesson for the next competition.
‘When are you next looking to compete?’
I have had to undergo two operations in the last three months which has put me out of training for almost the entire three months… I will not be back to training until late April now which means I miss quite a few competitions and a lot of my off season time over the winter/Spring.
I am hoping to start my off season and compete in the WBFF in London in November… but we will see!
‘Is it really worth all the dieting and time?’
I asked myself this question over and over again. I’m still not sure on the answer to this question. Everyone competes for different reasons, mine was to give me something to work towards, something to give my hard training and dieting a meaning and something to strive for. As long as you have a reason for competing that isn't to prove yourself or to please others, I think its a really fun experience that everyone should give a shot.
Competing takes a lot of intense training and strict diet for months and months. Starting with your off season, you need to take this seriously and really lift some heavy weights and eat lots of healthy nutritious foods to build good quality muscle. You then go into diet/the cut a few weeks pre competition where you aim to drop body fat and ‘lean out’, this is the hardest part as It generally means cutting out all junk foods and being as clean and strict with your diet as possible to make peak week that little bit easier and to make sure you do not have to drop calories too quick.
So in a nutshell, for me, competing is one of the most brilliant, challenging experiences that I have ever taken on, and one that I would like to really take seriously this season and see how my results differ when I put all my efforts in.
