OMG! I am sooooo sick of seeing girls starving themselves to loose weight or undergoing crash diets in the hope of dropping some pounds for summer. Living on a low calorie/low carb diet is not necessary to loose weight. You can skip all the crash diets by increasing your metabolism and improving your diet. Increasing your metabolism will not happen over night, although it is the best way to loose weight and remain healthy… and happy!

Believe it or not, one way to loose weight is to increase your macro nutrients/ calories. By slowly increasing calories (protein, fats and carbohydrates) your body will be able to burn food faster and become ‘used to’ the increased calories… increasing your metabolism. You need to increase your calories slowly, this is vital, or else your body will store the calories as excess fat… which is what we do not want.

Increasing your calories by 50-100 per week, in my opinion is the best way to slowly increase them. You can easily log your macro nutrients on the ‘my fitness pal’ app, which you can log your entire daily intake.

Good calories. Increasing your calories with processed, un whole foods will not help either. Keeping your diet clean, fibre intake and water high will also be crucial.

Increasing your bodies muscle mass to allow your body to burn more calories, even when at rest. Muscle uses more energy (even when resting) than fat… which means it burns more calories. You can increase muscle mass by lifting weights and following your diet plan.

Adding in fat burning cardio. So many people make the mistake of spending hours on the treadmill trying to drop loads of weight. You need to add cardio in around your weight lifting sessions.

I like to mix HIIT and LIIS cardio in my workout regime, so I don’t get bored and to give my body a bit of variety.

If I am doing LIIS cardio, I will do 20 minutes of very low intensity cardio (high incline walk/ spin bike with a high resistance) and if I am doing HIIT, I will do a quick 10minute circuit of intense body weight exercises such as jump squats, burpees etc.
